Oman registers over 62,000 SMEs in November

Oman’s Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Riyada) registered 62,335 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in November 2021. The figures released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) represent an increase of 30.4 percent year on year (y-o-y) compared to November 2020 indicating the ongoing recovery from the pandemic.

Across the country, the Governorate of Muscat registered the highest number of new enterprises with 21,068 (an increase by 31.5 percent y-o-y) followed by the Governorate of North Al Batinah with 9,830 new entities (an increase by 31.5 percent y-o-y). The Governorate of A’Dakhiliyah saw 7,604 new companies registered (an increase by 25.9 percent y-o-y) while the Governorate of Dhofar rose to 5,318 (an increase by 33.7 percent y-o-y) compared to November 2020.

The total number of SMEs registered by the end of November 2021 in the Governorate of South Al Batinah increased by 33.1 percent y-o-y to reach 4,742, the Governorate of North A’Sharqiya increased by 27.9 percent y-o-y to reach 4,110 while the Governorate of South A’Sharqiya increased by 32.2 percent to reach 3,738.

The other governates witnessed an increase in terms of newly registered enterprises too. In case of the Governorate of A’Dahirah it increased by 24 percent y-o-y to reach 3,454, the Governorate of Al Buraimi increased by 28.9 percent y-o-y to reach 1,321, the Governorate of Al Wusta expanded by 33 percent y-o-y to reach 831 and the Governorate of Musandam surged by 73.4 percent y-o-y to reach 319.
