The role of logistics in Qatar before, during and after the World Cup

Logistics will play a significant role in the State of Qatar before, during and after the FIFA World Cup 2022.

The main players in the logistics sector will be required to work very closely with the key stakeholders related to the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar including FIFA and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy as well as the contractors and sub-contractors delivering the event.

A selection of companies will be involved in developing and implementing a broad range of services across all tournament venues including the stadiums, the international broadcast centre and the fan zones. These services will be required in six key areas including event logistics, venue services, customs brokerage, global freight forwarding, warehousing services and reverse logistics.

In addition, organisational capabilities will be paramount as the complexity of the event could add additional challenges and companies should be prepared for all eventualities. The global supply chains are fluid and ever changing. Items will require end-to-end tracking from point of entry to point of use.

In preparation for the event, the Special Economic Zones Company – Manateq will invest more than QAR 10 billion (USD 2.75 billion) as part of a five-year plan to develop infrastructure in the country`s industrial zones. The funds will be allocated to new industrial zones in Mesaieed, Al Khor, Al Ruwais and Al Karaana. It is expected that this will increase the capacity for logistical operations at the for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar and to encourage more foreign direct investment in the country.

Manateq`s intention is to develop a business environment that enables world-class products and services to be delivered in the State of Qatar. The aspirations are in line with the Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030 and the plans for more diversification in the economy of the State of Qatar.
